NEW: Winter 2021 President's Update

A belated Happy New Year to all our members! This message is to update all of you on the Club’s current outlook for 2021. I will cover five of the most frequently asked about topics among the membership, including Social Events, the annual Instructor Seminar, AutoSlalom, the Advanced Driving School, and the Club Racing School, all with respect to our current status and COVID restrictions.

Social Events

With the current state of the pandemic and the current stay-at-home order, any social events we may have planned for the early spring are off the table. Our 2021 winter go-karting league has again been cancelled as well. This normally runs from January through March.

Instructor Seminar

Every year in early April we hold our Instructor seminar – this full-day class is part of our Continuous Improvement Program for Instructors and Instructor Trainees. At this point in time, we are unable to plan the event until we have a better sense of the rules that may govern indoor gatherings. We will re-assess at the end of February or in early March.

AutoSlalom

The Club’s first Auto Slalom event is planned for Sunday April 11. Again, there is uncertainty as to what rules may apply at that time, so please stay tuned.

Advanced Driving School + Club Racing School

Our first Advanced Driving School weekend, along with the BMW CCA Club Racing School is scheduled at Mosport (CTMP) Grand Prix track for April 23-25. We are hoping that at a minimum, the rules may allow us to operate in the same manner as we did last year, i.e. lead-follow format. However, the Club Racing School may have to be rescheduled to coincide with one of the subsequent advanced driving schools. A lot depends on the status of the pandemic, whether the border is open, and how many of our advanced or solo students and instructors sign up for the race school.

If you’ve managed to read this far, you have found a common theme: “Everything is up in the air”. We will do our very best to meet our objectives which are: 1. To keep you safe, 2. To bring you the events you enjoy, and 3. To have fun! So please bear with us, and pray that 2021 will be a better year than 2020.

Here is one event we guarantee will happen! Our Annual General Meeting will be held virtually over ZOOM. We are awaiting the finalization of the 2020 books, and we will announce a date and provide a link. Looking forward to “seeing” everyone!

In the meantime, if you have already registered for an event, don’t fret if we have to cancel it – your funds are not at risk, they will be applied to a future event or refunded.

Above all, please follow the guidelines of our health professionals and do your part to help stop this pandemic in its tracks.

Stay healthy and safe!
